Album Review: Shark School, Selachimorpha
Blistering collection from Irish punks - 8/10
Galwegian trio Shark School have enjoyed an incredible rise through the ranks. In quick order, they’ve become festival favourites and a must-listen for lovers of primal pit anthems. For good measure, they’ve also been making waves – so to speak – thanks to their song ‘Choose Life’ featuring on Netflix’s House Of Guinness.
Their debut LP maintains that momentum, and I’m pleased to report that mainstream attention hasn’t softened Shark School’s bite. Stuffed to the gills with jaw- rattling punk songs intended to uplift underdogs, Selachimorpha is all gas, no brakes.
Noise-rock aficionados will no doubt be reminded of the still-thrilling Solar Race when they hear the likes of the bullish ‘Shark Song’, while the grungy ‘I’m A Sin’ has a glorious chorus that demands to be cranked up to 11. An essential soundtrack for those who live life raging against the machine, in Selachimorpha, Shark School have served up a feast.
