Album Review: Advancement
ELECTRONIC DUO’s MOST AMBITIOUS ALBUM YET
Created over the course of a year in a number of different locations, the Dubliners’ third record - and first for Sunday Best, home of their hero David Lynch - is a densely textured feast for the ears. The kind of record that could score a trip to some strange and distant land, it’s a hugely enjoyable hybrid, featuring heavily processed samples of indigenous instruments, and elemental noises, which aim to mirror the widespread decay of the natural world.
Arguably their most ambitious effort to date, the record requires repeated spins to be properly appreciated. The haunting and hypnotic ‘Wild Flowers’ is a future classic, while the percussive slow-burner ‘Scale’ and the dramatic, guitar-driven ‘Separate From The Arc’ are among the finest moments. However, it’s best viewed as one extended piece of music that ebbs and flows, rather than 11 separate tracks. Impressive stuff.
