Album Review: FIZZ, The Secret To Life
Orla Gartland and co. bring oodles of energy to debut release
FIZZ is an amalgamation of artists and friends Orla Gartland, dodie, Martin Luke Brown and Greta Isaac. The quartet launched with their debut single ‘High In Brighton’, and shortly afterwards announced their debut album, as well as an Irish and UK tour.
Fitting opener ‘A New Phase Awaits You’ launches FIZZ’s quirky indie-pop collection. Throughout the record, each member’s unique sound and personality is allowed to shine. The aforementioned ‘High In Brighton’ boasts killer lyrics and real melodic flair, with the other previously released tunes – ‘Close One’, ‘As Good As It Gets’ and ‘Hell Of A Ride’ – similarly inspired.
‘You, Me, Lonely’ and ‘Lights Out’ capture the teenage world that so many of us long to return to – a time when life was much simpler, and heartbreak felt like the worst thing that could happen.
From top to bottom, The Secret To Life details the lives of twenty-somethings not really sure what they’re doing, having bad sex with bad people, and most importantly, holding onto their friends for dear life. It’s the album we didn’t know we wanted, but we really need.
Bravo FIZZ.
