You Bring The Energy, Flogas Brings The Power: Electric Picnic’s Official Energy Partner to power Main Stage with renewable electricity
Irish wind power is set to be the star of the show at Electric Picnic 2025 – with Flogas powering the festival’s Main Stage with renewable electricity from Jaroma Wind Farm in Co. Tipperary…
From its collaborative Global Green area and leave-no-trace ECO campsite, to its innovative sustainability policies, Electric Picnic continues to lead the charge when it comes to recognising and reducing its environmental impact as a major festival. After becoming the first festival of its kind, across Ireland and the UK, to install mains power to reduce its carbon footprint last year, EP is now gearing up to make history once again – through a groundbreaking new partnership with Flogas.
As Electric Picnic’s Official Energy Partner, Flogas will be powering the festival’s Main Stage – which is set to play host to some of the biggest names in Irish and international music – with renewable electricity, significantly reducing the festival’s carbon emissions.
Festival-goers will also be happy to hear that this grid-supplied electricity is locally-generated – sourced from Highfield Energy’s Jaroma Wind Farm in Co. Tipperary, located less than an hour away from Stradbally. Any balance of consumption not powered by Flogas’s Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with Jaroma Wind Farm is backed by Guarantees of Origin – ensuring the Main Stage’s power is always sourced from Irish renewable wind energy.
The collaboration underlines both Electric Picnic and Flogas’s commitment to creating and supporting a more sustainable future – while also ensuring a cleaner and greener festival experience for the rest of us.
“This partnership with Electric Picnic is a proud moment for Flogas,” says John Rooney, Managing Director of Flogas. “We’re delighted to be powering the Main Stage with renewable electricity, helping to significantly cut the festival’s carbon emissions. It’s a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate how local, renewable energy can deliver at scale and support a more sustainable future for everyone.”
The partnership ties in with a wider global movement towards more eco-friendly festivals – with punters increasingly seeking out events that prioritise sustainability, and inspire climate action. In 2023, a CGA by NIQ report into UK festivals found that 81% of festival-goers expected the festivals they attended to tackle environmental impacts – while 56% said that their concerns about the sustainability of festivals had grown in the past year.
Over the years, Electric Picnic – as Ireland’s biggest music and arts gathering – has made significant efforts to address those kinds of concerns. That includes prohibiting disposable vapes; reducing air pollution; banning single use plastic cutlery and non-compostable serve ware; discouraging the use of standard glitter due to its microplastics; and urging people to take their tents home with them after the weekend.
But as part of EP’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, finding new creative ways to power the festival is key. Viewing this partnership as a natural next step in the Electric Picnic’s sustainability journey, Festival Director Melvin Benn notes that “Flogas’s expertise and leadership in renewable energy make them the perfect partner as we continue to reduce the festival’s environmental impact.”
Flogas and Electric Picnic are now set to embark on a two-year journey together – which will see them explore creative new ways to make the festival even greener going forward.
As Flogas’s Barry Murphy, Energy Services Director points out, through the company’s work with Electric Picnic, they’re making “sustainability visible, accessible, and impactful for festival-goers.”
“The gas part about Flogas is that the gas part is only part of it,” he adds.
As one of Ireland’s leading energy providers – who became the country’s first supplier of 100% green electricity to business customers back in 2013 – Flogas have a proven track record when it comes to sustainable energy solutions. Through their Corporate Power Purchase Agreements – like the one with Highfield Energy’s Jaroma Wind Farm – Flogas have empowered businesses to access Irish renewable energy directly from local generators, at a fixed price.
“We’re proud to partner with Flogas on this exciting initiative,” comments John O’Connor, Managing Director of Highfield Energy. “Seeing our wind energy directly power one of Ireland’s biggest cultural events is a powerful testament to the potential of renewable electricity to fuel not just businesses and homes, but also the beating heart of Ireland’s music scene.”
So, as you’re packing your last-minute essentials for this year’s edition of Electric Picnic, rest assured that, together with Flogas, your favourite festival is doing its bit to make a real difference. Actions like these help to ensure the land will be here for generations of festival-goers to enjoy – allowing us to continue forging meaningful connections through music, art, conversation and the beauty of our natural surroundings.
As you find your perfect spot in the Main Stage crowd this August, all you have to do is bring the energy – and Flogas, along with the remarkable might of Irish wind, will bring the power...
