Tech Review: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
This portable home studio ain’t no gimmick...
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
Something screams “gimmick” about foldable smartphones. These throwbacks to the flip phones of the 2000’s – as seen in Breaking Bad, etc. – look like novelties, but the Flip4’s abilities are aeons beyond 2008-era calls, texts, and games of Snake. In full fold-out vertical mode, you’re treated to a vibrant OLED 6.7” display and the fold crease is barely noticeable.
In folded mode, the phone fits neatly into clothing crevices. There’s a mini 1.9” OLED cover screen on which you can check notifications, answer phone calls, and tap widgets to play music, watch YouTube and so forth, without having to flip open the phone.
Flip4 has a study design, allowing you to hold the phone in a mini-laptop set up. The two camera options – 12MP wide and 12MP ultrawide – are superb but lack a telephoto option. You can use the cover screen as a monitor to film yourself in vlog set-ups. This review scratches the surface of the Flip4’s abilities. It ain’t cheap – costing over €1,000 – but it’s more than just a phone. This portable home studio ain’t no gimmick.
