Tech Review: PlayStation Now
This is the price you pay for an all-you-can-eat buffet of gaming goodness.
When PlayStation’s streaming service launched in 2014, it looked shoddier than a one-armed bricklayer due to streaming woes and graphical lag. Five years on and everything has changed. PlayStation Now is wrestling with Xbox Game Pass to become king of cloud gaming. With a shopping list of over 700 titles, Sony leaves Microsoft choking in the dust.
Subscriptions start at €9.99 per month, rising to €59.99 for yearly subscriptions. Flagship titles include Grand Theft Auto V and the recent God Of War. PS4 games, such as Infamous Second Son and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, sit comfortably alongside artifacts from the PS2 era. Jak And Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, the gritty streets of Fallout: New York, and the hazardous byways of Red Dead Redemption, are accounted for.
It doesn’t all smell of roses. The games stream at 720p, and old titles such as Ico are showing their age. It’s the price you pay for an all-you-can-eat buffet of gaming goodness.
