Tech Feature: How Dyson continues to revolutionise domestic spaces

Despite resembling an object from science fiction, the Dyson V11 cordless stick vacuum cleaner is very much present tense. This hungry machine is engineered to clean anywhere: ceilings, floors, corners, hard floors, carpets, inside cars, under sofas.

How does it work? Here’s the science. A digital motor, built into the vacuum, spins the brush bar up to 60 times a second. Nylon bristles plunge deep into surfaces to remove ground-in dirt. Soft filaments capture dust from hard floors and crevices.

No cords (or strings) attached. The Dyson v11 gets up to 60 minutes of floor cleaning on a charge. You can check out your progress on a LCD screen, which displays the selected power mode, remaining run time, filter maintenance reminders and blockage reports.
