Seanad Éireann recognises Russian aggression on Ukraine as an act of genocide
The resolution has also recognised the barbaric acts of murder, rape, desecration of corpses, and the widespread use of military equipment against civilians.
Seanad Éireann has unanimously passed a motion on recognising Russian aggression on Ukraine as an act of genocide.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Ireland took to Twitter last night, in celebration of the news.
They captioned the post with: "Grateful to Senators involved for the huge support. One day soon, Russia will be brought to account for its crimes."

The resolution passed states that: "The invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, by the Russian Federation was an unprovoked act, and is contrary to international law.
It also recognises that: "The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, has complemented the invasion with state-sponsored oppression, propaganda, false reporting, and deliberate deceit within his own country in an effort to justify his actions."
Finally, the resolution called for the political leadership of the Russian Federation to be held accountable for its crimes.
Receiving an abundance of support on social media, many Twitter users complimented Ireland and the Irish on our overwhelming support of Ukraine.
One wrote: "Great work, Ireland! So proud that you have the courage, unlike others, to tell the truth about what the Russians are doing in Ukraine. It’s really important to use the word “genocide” now, so it is staring people in the face. So they must confront it. And do something to help."
