The Riptide Movement and Hermitage Green to perform at Longines Irish Champions Weekend
Longines Irish Champions Weekend returns to two of Ireland’s premier racecourses, Leopardstown and the Curragh, on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th September where the best in the world will meet for a top-class weekend of racing, entertainment and style.
The weekend event has established itself as one of Ireland’s best racing events, both on and off the track. Not only is there €4.8 million in prize money up for grabs this year, but racegoers will be treated to music by two of Ireland’s biggest bands, The Riptide Movement and Hermitage Green.
On Saturday September 15, broadcaster and social media personality Doireann Garrihy will spin the decks throughout the day and Lucan band The Riptide Movement will take to the stage at Leopardstown to perform their biggest hits, including ‘Elephant in Room’, ‘All Works Out’ and ‘Getting Through’.
Those attending the Curragh on Sunday 16th September can enjoy a post-race performance from Hermitage Green. Hailing from Limerick, Hermitage Green is an Irish acoustic Folk Rock band that has enjoyed a busy summer gigging across Europe. Over the past few months alone, the band has played alongside the likes of Gavin James, Walking On Cars and The Pogues.
The first of day of this two-day event will take place at Leopardstown (Saturday 15th Sept) and will feature some of the best Flat racing in the world. The QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes and the Coolmore ‘Fastnet Rock’ Matron Stakes are the two Group 1 races on the opening day of Longines Irish Champions Weekend and share top-billing at Leopardstown. A prestigious eight-race card offers a total prize fund of €2.45 million and features five group races, a new listed contest and two high-class handicaps, each valued at €150,000.
Day two of Longines Irish Champions Weekend will see festivities move to the Curragh Racecourse (Sun 16th Sept). This event is set to be full of fun for all the family with plenty of activities for the kids alongside top class racing at the home of Ireland’s classics. There are four Group 1 races on the eight-race card and pride of place goes to the Comer Group International Irish St Leger, the final Irish Classic of the season.
