Indiependence announces green initiative ahead of upcoming festival
The eco-friendly drive includes numerous recycling and plastic-waste-reduction initiatives aimed at making the festival greener.
With an estimated attendance of 15,000 people, Indiependence festival organisers have announced their intention to make the event more sustainable.
Return huts will be scattered throughout the Deer Farm venue in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork, where patrons can collect €2 for every ten Heineken Cups they return. The cups will then be recycled and turned into garden furniture.
Furthermore, in order to reduce plastic waste, Indiependence will require all food vendors to exclusively use biodegradable and compostable utensils. All bottled water on site will also be in biodegradable bottles.
Organisers are asking festival-goers to use the numerous recycling bins that will be on site. They are also calling upon campers to take their tents back home with them on Monday in an effort to reduce single-use as much as possible.
The highly anticipated Indiependence festival, to be held in Cork from 2-4 August, will feature headliners Bastille, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Biffy Clyro, Lewis Capaldi, Gavin James, and more.
