Gucci apologises and pulls sweater that resembles blackface.
Gucci have released an online statement apologising about their controversial sweater that resembles blackface. The sweater has received negative backlash all over social media from angry consumers finding offence from the garment. The $890 balaclava has been pulled from all physical stores and from online.
"Gucci deeply apologies for the offence caused by the wool balaclava jumper. We can confirm that the item has been immediately removed from our online store and all physical stores."
"We consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make. We are fully committed to increasing diversity throughout our organisation and turning this incident into a powerful learning moment for the Gucci team and beyond."
The premium clothing line's apology hasn't been accepted warmly online with some consumers finding the statement to be disingenuous. "You mean to tell me NO ONE saw the awful Blackface ressemblance with this shirt? This is clear cut proof that there is a HUGE lack of diversity at Gucci. Happy Black History Month guys"
