Trailer for the Mortal Kombat II film, due out May 8, has been released.
The adaptation of the popular video game franchise stars The Boys' Karl Urban as main character Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, and more.
Directed by Simon McQuoid and based on the 1992 video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, the film tells a story of "the fan favourite champions", joined by Johnny Cage.
They're now "pitted against one another in the ultimate battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders".
The first Mortal Kombat film was released in 1995, followed by its sequel Mortal Kombat Annihilation in 1997. After the two films, the game publisher filed for bankruptcy, leading to Warner Bros ultimately buying the series in 2009.
In 2021, the new Mortal Kombat film was released, serving as a reboot to the original series. It counts as the third instalment in the franchise.
Mortal Kombat II is the continuation of the 2021 Warner Bros production.
