WATCH: Mother fights white supremacy after her son was lynched in the trailer for biographical drama film TILL
The film, which is based on a true story that - at least in part - sparked the Civil Rights Movement in 1950s America, is set for release in Ireland on January 6th, 2023. Watch the new trailer below.
Universal Pictures Ireland have released a new, heartfelt trailer for the biographical drama film TILL, which tells the true story of a mother who stood up against white supremacy after her son was lynched in 1955.
Directed by Chinonye Chukwu and starring Danielle Deadwyler in the lead role and the likes of Jalyn Hall and Whoopi Goldberg in supporting roles, TILL explores Mamie Till Mobley’s relentless pursuit of justice for her 14 year old son Emmett, who was killed while visiting his cousins in Mississippi.
The poignant journey of grief turned to action does not only make for a profoundly emotional and cinematic film, but is testament to the universal power of a mother's ability to change the world.
According to Danielle Deadwyler, "We get to see how Mamie fights for justice. If something is happening to one of us, it is happening to all of us, and we witness her come into a particular kind of power and to be the progenitor of the Civil Rights Movement."
Whoopi Goldberg adds that "It's one of those stories that if you're black, you've heard about it."
"If something is happening to one of us, it’s happening to all of us.”

The trailer boasts pristine cinematography and moving storytelling, as well as a number of powerful quotes. Speaking in a Chicago court Mamie Till Mobley says, "Emmett just wanted to go on vacation and have fun with his cousins. I wanted him to be a boy and to not have his childhood taken away from him."
In another scene, the educator and activist can be seen telling reporters after her son's death, "That smell is my son's body, reeking of racial hatred."
TILL was written by Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp and Chinonye Chukwu, and features a large African American cast, including Frankie Faison, Jayme Lawson, Tosin Cole, Kevin Carroll, Sean Patrick Thomas, John Douglas Thompson, and Roger Guenveur Smith.
The film had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival on October 1st, 2022 and is set for release in Ireland on January 6th, 2023.
