Netflix secures rights to new Liam Neeson action movie The Ice Road
Laurence Fishburne also stars in 'The Ice Road', which Jonathan Hensleigh directed from his own screenplay.
Streaming platform Netflix has swooped in to buy the US rights to Liam Neeson's new action movie, The Ice Road.
The film is about a diamond mine in Canada that collapses, with Neeson playing an ice driver who has to battle through the frozen sea to save the miners who are trapped. The cast also includes Ray McKinnon, Marcus Thomas, Benjamin Walker and Amber Midthunder,
Deadline reports that there were multiple bidders for the domestic film rights, which were won for a huge $18 million.
Die Hard With A Vengeance and Armageddon writer Jonathan Hensleigh wrote and directed the film.
In January, Neeson said he planned to wrap up his action movie career after completing the small number of projects he has in the pipeline.
The Taken actor quipped to Entertainment Tonight that his character would need to be "in a zimmer frame" if he continued playing action roles for much longer.
"I'm 68 and a half. 69 this year. There's a couple more I'm going to do this year - hopefully, COVID allowing us - there's a couple in the pipeline and, then I think that will probably be it."
