Netflix releases the trailer for ‘FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened’
The documentary exploring the disastrous music festival will be released on January 18.
The Fyre Festival made headlines around the world in April 2017, but not for its stellar line up. Marketed as a ‘luxury’ music festival on the island of Great Exuma in The Bahamas, the event soon descended into chaos. Less than two years later, one of the festival organisers, Billy McFarland, is in prison after pleading guilty to charges of wire fraud.
Promoted by major American influencers like Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Emily Ratajkowski, the festival’s line-up included big names like Migos, Blink 182, Disclosure, Lil Yachty, and Skepta. Festival-goers forked out thousands of dollars to attend.
Expecting luxury accommodation and services on the island, visitors were instead greeted with half-built tents, wet mattresses, piles of rubbish, lost luggage, staff shortages and a lack of information. Instances of theft and looting were also reported. Subsequent flights to the island were cancelled, and organisers soon announced that the festival would be postponed.
Netflix has now released a trailer for a documentary that will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the infamous festival, directed by Chris Smith of ‘Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.’
