HBO announce new two-part Billy Joel documentary
The documentary will showcase Joel's life, legacy and career.
A two-part documentary about Billy Joel will debut on HBO later this summer.
Billy Joel: And So It Goes is directed by Susan Lacy of American Masters, Fonda in Five Acts and Spielberg, in addition to Jessica Levin of The Janes. The documentary will feature personal photographs, interviews, home movies and never-before-seen performances.
“For those who think they know Joel’s story, as well as those who are not as familiar, I believe this two-part film is both a revelation and a surprise,” Lacy told Deadline. “I was drawn to his story as someone who knew little at the outset, and was astounded at how autobiographical his songs are and how complex his story is. We are gratified that Bill trusted us with his story, which we have told as honestly as possible, diving into territory which has not been explored before.”
The announcement comes after Joel postponed his upcoming tour dates due to a medical condition.
“While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first,” he said in a statement. “I look forward to getting back on stage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”
