Broadway star Nick Cordero dies from Coronavirus complications
Cordero was 41 years old.
Broadway actor and Tony Award-nominee Nick Cordero passed away early this morning from complications related to COVID-19. He is survived by a one year old son, Elvis, and his wife Amanda Kloots. Kloots posted on Instagram confirming Cordero's passing: "I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere," she wrote. "He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday."
Cordero was known for his star turn in the hit musical Waitress, as well as for portraying Sonny in A Bronx Tale. His Tony nomination came for his role in Bullets Over Broadway.
He spent 90 days in the hospital after being rushed to the emergency room on March 30th, and had to have his right leg amputated. According to Kloots, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by family. Actor Zach Braff – who was close to Cordero – joined a host of broadway performers and artists (including Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Finneas O'Connell) by posting a message on Twitter this morning:
Nick Cordero passed at 11:40am today with his mother and wife by his side. I can honesty tell you I have never met a kinder human being. Don’t believe that Covid only claims the elderly and infirm.
I am so grateful for the time we had. “We’ll catch up some other time.” pic.twitter.com/Oq2a8QsIyH— Zach Braff (@zachbraff) July 6, 2020
