Blindboy named Best Documentary Presenter at Grierson Awards
The Grierson Awards celebrate documentaries made in Britain and abroad.
Blindboy Boatclub has been named Best Documentary Presenter at the Grierson Awards in London.
The Limerick-based podcaster was presented this award on Tuesday night for his RTÉ One programme Blindboy: The Land Of Slaves & Scholars. He was also the co-writer and producer of the documentary.
The 2024 film explored early Christianity in Ireland through examining the practices of ancient monasteries and scribes, all through the lens of Blindboy, a 'non-believer'. The documentary also delved into Irish traditions and culture, while confronting the harsh realities of historical religious institutions, focusing on the brutality of slave labour.
"With honesty, poetic insight, and a uniquely engaging voice, this presenter drew audiences into subjects they might not normally explore, challenging perceptions and sparking genuine reflection," said the Grierson Awards upon introducing the accolade. "Their authenticity and originality make their work both distinctive and profoundly impactful."
Blindboy: The Land Of Slaves & Scholars first premiered last year and is now available for streaming on RTÉ Player.
