What's happening for Culture Night in Roscommon this year

Culture Night returns to Roscommon this year, bringing a full evening of music, art, food and performance to venues across the county. Organised as part of the national Culture Night initiative, the event gives people a chance to explore local galleries, theatres, museums and community spaces, many of which open their doors for free.

This year's programme features a wide mix of activities for all ages, with something on offer whether you're after live music, hands on workshops or a quiet look round a historic building.

Here are some of the things happening in Roscommon:

At Moore Hall in Ballydangan, AnneMarie Hynes will perform some of her own music woven with songs by Dolores Keane, accompanied by Maura O'Brien and the Forget Me Not Community Choir. Hynes is a well travelled singer having performed in many corners of the globe, she now mostly performs at wellness festivals or listening gigs. Her music often has a spiritual aspect – she was once a member of the Dublin Gospel Choir and has been described as a devotional singer which she takes as a compliment. Her love for nature is evident in her music and often has a celtic shamanic sound.

Meanwhile, at Creighton's Bar in Boyle, Dublin-born singer Christine Tobin will perform her programme titled There is a Place for Us. She will be joined by Phil Robson on guitar and Conor Murray on double bass. The title was inspired by the beautiful Leonard Bernstein song and by the warmth and welcoming community spirit of the Hidden Heartlands. Songs chosen will celebrate, people, place and togetherness.

Yet another performance will be put on by harpist Claire Roche at the Douglas Hyde Centre in Portaghard. Using 3 harps - an 1850s Erard Concert Harp, a 1998 Paddy Cafferky Irish Harp and a Camac Debroah Henson Conant Electric Blue Harp - Claire will present a beautiful selection of music.

Culture Night is free to attend and runs from early evening until late, with most venues open between 5pm and 9pm unless stated otherwise.
