Watch: Baz Luhrmann show set in 1977 New York gets trailer
The Get Down hits Netflix August 12
New York 1977: a city on the verge of bankruptcy gives birth to punk, disco, and - of course - hip-hop.
That's the backdrop against which Baz Luhrmann's new series The Get Down plays.
To see Luhrmann as the director and creator of a show intimately connected to hip-hop is - unexpected, given his past credits (Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge!), but, hey, Romeo + Juliet had gangsters.
The one-hour, thirteen-episode series features original music from Nas and Grandmaster Flash.
The first six episodes will hit Netflix on August 12, but for now check out the show's trailer below.
