Irish made thriller Spears is Gerard Lough's second feature film following up 2015's critically acclaimed horror Night People.
The first teaser for the Irish mystery thriller Spears coming in 2021 has arrived.
Shot in four different countries, this ambitious independent production will have a much larger scope than Lough's first one, starring an international cast with Aidan O'Sullivan, Bobby Calloway, Nigel Brennan, Michael Parle, Yalda Shahidi, Rebecca Rose Flynn and Thomas Sharkey. With its moody atmosphere and pervading sense of paranoia, the film will very much be rooted in the Neo-Noir style and explore topical themes both political and technological.
Here's the plot in a nutshell: A Private Investigator (Brennan) is sent to Florence, Italy to find a woman (Shahidi) who mysteriously disappeared there. In London, a Dissident Republican (O'Sullivan) does a risky arm's deal. In Berlin, a scam artist (Calloway) tries to convince a married woman (Flynn) to run off with him. Faster than they'd expected, the three find themselves trapped in a web of treachery, violence and revenge.
Above that, the film will highlight some great Irish soundtracks from new artists such as Shaefri, Sleep Thieves and Exit: Pursued by a Bear.
Raised and based in London with Irish-Egyptian roots, alt-pop artist Shaefri was interviewed by Hot Press earlier this year following up the release of her EP Girl where she talked about mental health, social issues and having 'grown up'. Read up the interview here.
Sleep Thieves are a dark synth-pop trio from Dublin who dedicated themselves to film soundtracks and vintage synths. With millions of plays and almost 100 000 unique listeners per month on Spotify, they have garnered great international listenership.
The thriller also sees Cork's Exit: Pursued by a Bear featured with their track Name of Song.
