Everything's going green at this year’s Oxegen with the return of the Heineken Greenspace and the new Green Spheres stage.
Oxegen and Heineken go hand in hand. Not just because they share the same last syllable in their name, or even because Heineken have been Oxegen’s core sponsor for the past five years.
Heineken won’t just be the tipple of choice this year, it will also be one of the venues of choice with the return of the Heineken Greenspace. This year also sees the introduction of the new Heineken Green Spheres Stage.
If you need a quick break from the hordes of welly-wearing festivalians, then the Heineken Greenspace is the area of calm that you have been looking for. Set away from the hustle, bustle and general high-energy of the festival, you can have a quick rest and feast your eyes on the large screens that will bring you all the action from the main stage. All the while, you can take the time to enjoy a quiet pint or two of the fine beverage without missing out on the Oxegen experience.
It won’t just be a space for you to take a time out, you can have the chat with your friends and other Oxegen-goers or get the latest festival updates and stage times to your phone, as the area will also be a Blu-tooth hotspot. Nifty, eh?
You can also nab a goodie bag which could be your saving grace over the weekend, be blown away by the interactive floor projections (let your imagination run riot) or even stumble upon a celebrity. All good, as they say!
Heineken will also be bringing us music – glorious music – at their Heineken Green Spheres Stage. Some of you may already be familiar with the free gigs that Heineken Green Spheres throw across the country like Friendly Fires in Waterford, Vitalic in Carlow and Crystal Castles in Galway. Well, at Oxegen they will bring you the crème de la crème of Irish rock, including Republic of Loose, Fight Like Apes, God Is An Astronaut and Dirty Epics. And that’s just on the first night.
You can also see the fantastic 2 Many DJs, Scottish prog-rockers Mogwai, the electronic elder statesmen Pet Shop Boys, Pete Doherty, Manic Street Preachers, Foals and The Saturdays as well as a whole host of other chart-topping acts over the weekend.
With all aspects of pop, rock, electro and dance covered, you are bound to find something there that will tickle either your or your mates’ fancy.
The tent itself will boast a 360-degree Videosphere (technology – what will they do next?) that will play videos to keep the fans happy between performances.
Heineken will also, of course, be serving pints behind the bars dotted across the main festival arena. So not only are they providing us with music and entertainment, they are also the main thirst-quenchers of this year’s Oxegen. Kudos to you Heineken!
