Rachel Weisz is also reportedly in early talks for a role in the Marvel movie.
Marvel fans have long called for a stand-alone movie starring Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. Now, it seems more details are falling into place about the film, which is rumored to be an origin story following Natasha Romanoff's beginnings as a SHIELD agent.
David Harbour has been experiencing a major moment of popularity with his starring role as Jim Hopper in hit Netflix series Stranger Things and now a turn as the titular character in the upcoming Hellboy reboot. As of yet, no details about his character in Black Widow have been revealed.
British actress Rachel Weisz may also be appearing in the film, reportedly in talks for a key role. She was recently nominated for an Academy Award for her role in The Favourite and she previously won the same award for her role in the 2005 film The Constant Gardener.
Australian director Cate Shortland has been hired to direct Black Widow. Shortland is most well known for her critically lauded 2012 film Lore, which follows the children of Nazis at the end of World War II. Shortland's recruitment fits Marvel's recent penchant for hiring indie directors, including Taika Waititi who directed Thor: Ragnarok and Chloe Zhao who will be directing upcoming Marvel project The Eternals.
