Mary Lou McDonald has tested positive for coronavirus after a two-week wait.
Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald has confirmed that she has received a positive diagnosis for Covid-19.
McDonald suffered a serious setback in recovery but is no longer infected. The Sinn Féin leader confirmed that she was no longer deemed to be infectious, and hoped to return to work next Monday.
In a statement released this afternoon by Sinn Féin, McDonald said she was tested for Covid-19 on March 28, and received confirmation yesterday of a positive result for the coronavirus.
The Dublin Central TD said she has now been informed that she is no longer infected or infectious - saying it is: "a great relief after weeks of being very unwell."
Deputy McDonald said she had experienced a setback in her recovery last weekend, after developing post-viral pleurisy in her right lung. However, she added she was responding very well to medication and fully expects to be back at work on Monday.
The party leader said she wanted to express gratitude to the doctors, nurses and carers, express sympathy with every bereaved family, and appealed to everyone to stay safe and stay at home.
