Rocksmith 2014 Edition - Tech Review
Don’t fret the small stuff
Disclaimer alert. Rocksmith is a guitar game that doesn’t come with a guitar. That’s because, unlike the plastic fakery of Guitar Hero (the whammy-busting series that took over the 2000s before dying off faster than Dido’s career), this is for people who really want to learn how to play. So once you get equipped with a proper six-string or bass guitar, you can plug your axe into the Xbox One and rip out lead licks. Well, baby steps at first.
Like Guitar Hero, Rocksmith’s gameplay involves fretboard highways — as the song plays, hit the corresponding notes or chords as they appear on screen. The song selection is miraculous: Nirvana, The Who, Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, Ramones, Radiohead, and plenty more. Owners of Rocksmith on Xbox 360 can transfer their song catalogue to Xbox One.
Latency issues exist though and the delay between what you play and when you hear it is a bum note.
