Bandleader Rivers Cuomo announced on twitter last night that fans of Weezer will now be able to play a new Wordle-esque game called Weezle.

Like the immensely popular word puzzle game, Weezle is a free browser app that gives players six chances to guess a correct set of letters. In this new app however, all the answers will consist of lyrics from Weezer songs.

Since Wordle became a worldwide sensation in early 2022 there have been an abundance of spinoffs and copies. Many of these keep the same word guessing structure but then apply it to more niche topics. Some Wordle clones include 'Taylordle' for Taylor Swift fans, and 'Wizarding Wordle' for fans of the Harry Potter Series.

Cuomo’s venture into the world of mobile apps isn't surprising. He recently took part in Harvard University's CS50 introduction to computer-science course. As part of the course he created Drivetimes, an application that digitizes touring band’s schedules.

Cuomo also made a website called Wezzify that he uses to sell home recordings and demos. “Close to 3,500 demos. Follow curated playlists. Create playlists of your favorites. I made this app myself. It took me all of 2021 to make. I hope you enjoy it,” Cuomo said of the new web project. “I’m a real introvert and I’m perfectly happy to be at home all the time working on music and computer programming,” he adds.

Back in February Weezer celebrated 30 years of music making. The Band announced on twitter that they are “nowhere near the end of the story”.
