PREMIERE: Gemma Bradley taps Dublin-based rapper Jamel Franklin & David Lyttle for smooth jam 'Better'
Gemma Bradley is currently lined up to support Joesef at the Belfast show of his October tour.
Soulful singer-songwriter, BBC Radio 1 presenter and Jazz Life Alliance winner Gemma Bradley has shared new R&B single 'Better', teaming up with MOBO-nominated David Lyttle and Dublin-based rap sensation Jamel Franklin for the track.
Following the success of previous single 'Obsessed', BIMM alumna Gemma Bradley has served up a laidback end of summer jam with the help of internationally acclaimed jazz musician David Lyttle.
Announced as the deserved winner of the Jazz Life Alliance Award last year, the radio host was given the opportunity to write with David, with the infectious new single 'Better' created as a brilliant result.
As lockdowns left most of us resigned to working from home, Bradley and Lyttle surpassed creative barriers to write, record and produce this gorgeously blended piece of music. Incorporating all the best bits of pop, R&B and jazz, 'Better' offers a melody and flow that is impossible to resist.
“This song is essentially about searching for something better," Gemma tells Hot Press of the song. "We’ll always meet people in our lives who think that they know what’s best but only you can know for yourself what that is. And sometimes, you don’t know until you find it and that’s what this song is, it’s that part in between knowing and finding what’s better for us.”
Wanting to incorporate some hip-hop influence, Bradley immediately thought of Jamel Franklin, whose cohesive verse allows the song to morph into a true '90s-inspired R&B vibe.
The emerging artist has been making the most of the gig-free world by spending a lot of time writing and levelling up her music, with lots to expect in 2022. The talented act is currently slated to support Joesef at the Belfast show of his October tour, with tickets available here.
Bradley also had the pleasure of playing this year’s Stendhal Festival, following her impressive slots at previous Electric Picnics and a spot on Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Longlist. Gemma's distinct pop/R&B sound has gauged the interest of radio stations all over the nation and beyond, securing playlist spots on Cool FM, Q Radio and RTE 2fm’s 'Track of the Week'.
