Phibsboro For All to host free screening of documentary Samira's Dream with director Q&A
The screening will be taking place on May 18 at 6pm and is admission-free
Phibsboro For All will be hosting a screening of the documentary Samira's Dream on May 18 at Technological University Dublin. The event will begin at 6pm and admission is free.
Released in 2019, the documentary follows Samira, a 21-year-old woman from Zanzibar, over the course of seven years as she attempts to pursue her education while also building a family life. The film explores her efforts to balance personal ambition with cultural and family pressures while working towards greater independence.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with the film’s director, Nino Tropiano, alongside journalist, filmmaker and writer Gemma Creagh from Film Ireland.
The evening will also include a musical session with Ger Griffin, who will perform live music and read an extract from folk singer Johnny Moynihan’s Zanzibar narrative.
Director Nini Tropiano was born in eastern Italy before moving to Dublin in the mid-1990s. He later graduated from the National Film School in directing and production and has since produced a number of documentaries focused on social issues.
Phibsboro For All is a group of local residents focused on promoting inclusion and integration in the area through initiatives and activities aimed at creating a safe and welcoming space for people from all backgrounds.
