The exhibition, which is due to open to the public in summer 2018, will be the first ever to be housed in the new Bank of Ireland Cultural and Heritage Centre within Bank of Ireland’s College Green complex.
A partnership project between the NLI, the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Bank of Ireland, the exhibition, entitled “Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again”, will draw on the National Library’s extensive archive of Heaney documents.
The exhibition will also feature Heaney’s original manuscripts as well as letters, unpublished works, diary entries, photographs, note books and multi-media recordings.
The National Library of Ireland (NLI) will announce details of a major international exhibition telling the story of the work of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney at a special reception tonight (5th December).
At the reception, Director of the NLI, Dr Sandra Collins will reveal details of the forthcoming exhibition and a short film will be screened to provide further insights into the exhibition.
The event will also be addressed by Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan TD; Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Ireland, Francesca McDonagh; and a member of Seamus Heaney’s family.
The event will conclude with a reading of Heaney’s poem ‘The Rain Stick’ by actor Sam McGovern.
