Minister for Culture congratulates Irish theatre company for Edinburgh Fringe award
"This is not just a brilliant achievement for all involved in this moving theatrical story but also an acknowledgement of the strength of Irish work," O'Donovan said.
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O'Donovan has congratulated director Dan Colley and the Lost Lear Company on their Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe.
The Scotsman’s Fringe First award, which recognises outstanding new writing at the Edinburgh Fringe, was announced at a special event this morning. Lost Lear is one of eight productions at the Fringe as part of Culture Ireland’s Edinburgh Showcase. The Showcase aims to increase theatre and dance artists' international reach and opportunities.
"This is not just a brilliant achievement for all involved in this moving theatrical story but also an acknowledgement of the strength of Irish work being supported by Culture Ireland this year as part of its Showcase," said O'Donovan of the award.
"I look forward to passing on my congratulations in person when I travel to Edinburgh next week."
Colley, writer and director of Lost Lear, said the company is "thrilled" with their Fringe First.
"This recognition and the inclusion in the Culture Ireland Showcase will undoubtedly continue to open more doors for our international touring," said Colley, adding, "For that, we are doubly grateful."
Lost Lear is presented by Colley in collaboration with the Riverbank Arts Centre and Mermaid Arts Centre. It is currently playing at the Traverse Theatre in Edinburgh.
