John Keane's Big Maggie comes to Gaiety Theatre

Big Maggie, a play by John B. Keane, will be playing at the Gaiety Theatre from January 29 to March 6. Tickets go on sale this Friday, September 18.

BAFTA-nominated actress Helen Behan takes the starring role of Maggie Polpin, a recent widow trying to hold her family together. The play is an Irish favourite thanks to Maggie's sharp tongue and iron will in dealing with suitors after her property and her unruly children.

First published in 1969, Big Maggie is among John B. Keane's best-known works, along with Sive and The Field. 

The Kerry native made a name for himself by depicting the struggles of rural Ireland, such as unhappy marriages, emigration, and modernisation. Yet Keane's works also entertain by mixing humor with social commentary.
