George R.R. Martin teenage fan letter to Stan Lee surfaces online
Sixteen-year-old Martin finds plot hole within Marvel comic
The knack for plotting seems to have been with Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin from a young age.
The internet has found an old fan letter Martin wrote to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in which he assesses the two comic legends' work. The letter appeared in Fantastic Four Volume One, Issue 32 in 1964.
The sixteen-year-old Martin praises the two - “Ho-hum! Another month, another bunch of classics, but then what else can one expect from you chaps?” - but he also finds a plot hole in their work.
"When we last saw the Red Ghost in FF #13, he was stuck on the moon being chased around by three super-powered apes livid with hatred and waving Mr Fantastic’s paralyser ray at him. Now suddenly you bring him back in full control of his apes without one single word of explanation”, the young fan explains.
Lee responds within the issue, noting that he and Kirby forgot where they left Red Ghost due to harsh deadlines.
