A fundraiser has been launched for Limerick artist Tobi Omoteso after the performer was violently attacked over the weekend, leaving him with permanent eye damage.
Gardaí are currently investigating the assault, which took place in Limerick city on Saturday morning.
Omoteso has said he was "hunted down" by the perpetrator, attacking the performer with a baseball bat, presumably as a random act of road rage.
"As I tried to leave my estate, a man sat waiting in his car at the exit," he stated. "He was parked carelessly, tires on the footpath, trapping traffic and creating a chaos in an already small space, with road works. After a brief exchange of gesture, something snapped in him. He chose me."
The attacker smashed Omoteso's car windows, with shattered glass entering both of his eyes.
Omoteso, who is director of the TOP 8 Street Dance company, has launched a GoFundMe to cover the cost of medical bills. He has said he will face four major medical treatments, stating he is "battling an onset cataract and a ruptured lens capsule, both of which must be surgically removed."
Out of respect to the artist, World Of Dance Ireland honoured Omoteso with one minute of silence at Sunday's competition in Drogheda.
