A New York Times book review, discussing an extract from the biography Elon Musk, written by Walter Isaacson, circulated earlier this week on social media, seemingly revealing Musk and his on-again-off-again partner Grimes had a third child together, but kept the news hidden.

Speaking out about this, Grimes, mother to three of Musk's children, confirmed the news was true.

Grimes took to X, the platform owned by Musk, and formerly known as Twitter, to address a seperate family matter and subtly confirm that she and Musk have welcomed a third child.

“Hey, I wud prefer to not breathe any more life into this current press cycle but I want to de-escalate the narrative atm,” the musician began, making reference to a since-deleted post in which she accused the tech magnate of keeping her from one of their kids, where she also called out Shivon Zilis, the mother of Musk's twins. “I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don’t be angry at her! We respect each other a lot and we’re excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together.”

“Speaking with Shivon, it’s very evident she’s an amazing human and we both just want what’s best for our kids,” Grimes concluded. “I wish I could show u how cute little Techno is but my priority rn is keeping my babies out of the public eye.”

Musk also confirmed the news with in reply to tweet listing the names of his and Grimes’ children, writing, “Tau Techno Mechanicus. Circumference/Diameter."

Musk and Grimes have two other children together: their son X AE A-XII (“X”), born in May 2020, and daughter Exa Dark Sideræl (“Y”), born via surrogate in December 2021. Their daughter was born after the couple announced they were “semi-separated” in September of 2021.

Neither side has shared the date of their third child's birth.

Musk welcomed twins named Strider and Azure with Zilis in November 2021, according to a July 2022 Business Insider report, with his other children Nevada (who passed from sudden infant death syndrome), twins Griffin and Xavier, and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian co-parented by his first wife Justine Wilson. Musk and Wilson divorced in 2008.
