RTÉ Radio 1 is seeking Ireland’s Best Emerging Folk Artist of 2019
The annual Folk Awards by RTÉ Radio 1 will be hosted by John Creedon and Ruth Smith on October 24th at Vicar Street in Dublin.
Last night on RTÉ Radio 1’s Simply Folk show, presenter Ruth Smith announced that the station is seeking submissions for the “Best Emerging Folk Artist” category. “With 3 months to go to this year’s RTÉ Radio1 Folk Awards we’re asking all you folk music lovers to help us cast our net far and wide to gather all the new talent out there for the category of Best Emerging Folk Act,” Smith said in a statement.
Those who’d like to be considered for the award are asked to submit one piece and a description to [email protected] with the subject line “Best Emerging Artist.” Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges curated by RTÉ Radio 1.
One year ago, the inaugural award was given to Emma Langford, who has since received much praise for her work.
The deadline for submissions is Sunday, 28 July at midnight.
