Purple billboards suggest that Prince's music is heading back to Spotify
Ahead of the Grammy Awards ceremony, where a major tribute to Prince has been planned, purple Spotify billboards seem to suggest that the late singer's music could be returning to the streaming site.
The billboards appeared appeared in New York’s Union Square subway station on Monday morning bearing only the Spotify logo and a purple background.
Spotify have been trying to reach a deal to stream Prince's music before the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 12.
L. Londell McMillan, a special entertainment adviser to Prince’s estate, told Billboard last week that such a deal was not confirmed and still might not happen in time for the Grammys; however, the ads seem to be a display of confidence on the part of Spotify.
While much of Prince’s later catalogue remains in varying degrees of legal limbo, sources told Billboard that the artist’s Warner Music catalogue are on solid footing to be streamed.
