Imelda May is recording a new single, ‘Tears Of Clew Bay’, with The Claw Bay Pipers which will feature on the deluxe edition of her Tribal album, out here on November 21.
It was penned y her bass-player Al Gare who explains: “Whilst touring with Imelda, to keep myself sane I play ukulele and write poetry. We played the Westport Festival a few years ago and I was stunned at how vibrant and beautiful it was – from the high street of traditional pubs, to Croagh Patrick Mountain which overlooks Clew Bay. I ended up staying there for a few days and wrote the poem ‘Tears Of Clew Bay’.”
Performed as an encore, it made its way on to YouTube.
“The Clew Bay Pipers saw it and got in touch through a chance meeting with a fellow Brummie in a Westport pub,” he continues. “It was the right place/right time, so the collaboration was born. The story inside the song can be interpreted any way you choose but its a sad little tale which shows off Imelda’s really quite incredible versatility as a singer.”
