The new video from the punk band includes images from American history, from the civil rights movement through to the election of Trump.
Green Day has released the new lyric video for their song "Troubled Times." The video takes the viewer on a historical journey through the suffragette and civil rights movements to the turbulent American politics of today. Billie Joe Armstrong released a statement about the video, saying “Today we celebrate love and compassion more than ever,” as the video was released on Martin Luther King day.
Green Day haven't been silent about the results of the American election, as they chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA!” in the middle of their performance of "American Idiot" during the American Music Awards last November. Though their actions as well as this recent video have been obvious political rebellions, drummer Tré Cool wants to ensure that the audience doesn't read too far into the political messages of their latest album. “I wish we could take credit for being supergeniuses and having crystal balls,” he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “But our balls are normal, like everyone else’s.”
