Oh My God, Charlie Darwin
Warm-hearted folk pop from New England
Rhode Island folk rockers the Low Anthem’s third record Oh My God, Charlie Darwin is a lo-fi, homemade kind of affair. The strings on the guitars buzz in anticipation of the next chord, the vocals are hushed yet passionate (a rare feat) and tracks like ‘To Ohio,’ ‘Music Box’ and ‘Ticket Taker’ give you a warm feeling in your belly much akin to drinking chicken soup on a miserable Wednesday afternoon. There are times when the record doesn’t work (we could do without the Tom Wait’ homage ‘The Horizon Is A Bellway’) but ultimately Oh My God, Charlie Darwin succeeds because of its sincerity.
Key Track: ‘To Ohio’
