Jewellery
21-year-old future-dystopian grime dj breaks new ground
Forget everything you’ve read about Little Boots or VV Brown, the most exciting new female artist of the moment is 21-year-old Mica Levi, AKA Micachu, and her debut album Jewellery is packed with more ideas than both of them put together. Crafting songs that sound like nightmares from the future, the grime DJ employs a cavalcade of odd instruments (including a Hoover and a half-sized guitar) to round out her unique vision. Jewellery is the sound of an artist making music for the sheer joy of it and it’s refreshingly convention free too (‘Floor,’ ‘Vulture’). Overall, it’s an absolute triumph.
