Hush
New York dreampop combo meander a bit
Hush is the third record from New York’s Asobi Seksu and it sees a marked change of style for the band whose moniker is the Japanese phrase for “casual sex.” Gone is the subtle raunch of old and in its place we get sleepy, dream-like pop music that bands like the Cocteau Twins used to make in the ‘90s. In broadening their sound they’ve lost some of the spark that made their self-titled debut such fun, but we do get flashes of brilliance on ‘Sing Tomorrow’s Praise’ and ‘Me & Mary’ which prove that they haven’t lost their way just yet.
