It s a bit of a mouthful but it s actually the multi-talented Parisian musician, photographer, sometime pop producer and film maker Jay Alanski in an ongoing process of aural and spiritual development.
Sounds a bit weird. Has he done anything we should know about?
He released his debut album, Mercy Street three years ago and now he s back with the follow up, Ambrosia on Laurent Garnier s F Communications label.
Ah, he s French. That ll be another disco house merchant then?
I don t think so: Alanski has nothing in common with the filtered disco crew. He might be from the same country as yer Punks, Cassius and Bob Sinclars, but Alanski operates in a far more abstract electronic sphere.
Let me guess: it s called Ambrosia so it s all fluffy ambience.
You re on the right track, but take a left turn before you reach the dolphin noise department: Ambrosia is a deeply musical and breathy chill out album.
Anything else we need to know about it?
Alanski gives the whole thing more of an edge by collaborating with vocalists Nicole Graham and Millane Klang, even singing himself on three of the tracks.
So, when will we get a chance to see A Reminiscent Drive live?
Don t hold your breath: Alanski wants to DJ to promote the album, but it ll be a mix of mood music, rather than a banging house performance. There was also talk of combining a DJing tour with a multimedia style art installation but there s no word on that either at the moment.
A Reminiscent Drive, least likely to say:
I think we need a Bob Sinclar mix for the next single.
A Reminiscent Drive, most likely to say:
Let me dispel the trials and tribulations of living in the new millennium with my sensuous, melodic mood music.
Ambrosia is out now on F Communications.
