Loops From The Bergerie
Every few years, Swayzak return with an album that makes most of their peers sound like amateurs.
Every few years, Swayzak return with an album that makes most of their peers sound like amateurs. ‘Bergerie’ was recorded in the French countryside and its title takes inspiration from an old Serge Gainsbourg film soundtrack. Like the Gallic crooner, the album has a smoky, bluesy feel, as live drums and the occasional jagged guitar chords are combined with Swayzak’s textured electronic sounds. Featuring vocalists on almost every track - including Swayzak’s own Brun, Punkt artist Richard Davis and French singer Mathilde Mallen – and deeply introspective lyrics, the overall result is a moody, mournful and emotionally fragile work that’s equally inspired by Joy Division and Talk Talk, John Lee Hooker’s legacy and dubby German techno.
