Varadkar Confirms Referendum on 8th Ammendent Set for Summer 2018
Speaking in the Dáil that this afternoon the Taoiseach confirmed an "indicative timeline" has been set for a referendum.
Following the recommendations of an all Oireachtas Committee report due in December, Leo Varadkar has stated the Government intend to hold a referendum on the 8th Amendment in May or June of 2018.
The Tanaiste Francis Fitzgerald has previously stated her preference to hold a referendum on the matter ‘as soon as possible’ while the Citizens’ Assembly voted in April woth 64% to support a referendum on the constitutional provision giving an equal right to the life of the mother and the unborn.
Further referendums on Blasphemy and the "Woman's life within the home" are planned for October of next year.
