Right on Manor Street, where the former Zoom Salon used to sit, this part café/part grocer radiates personality, with its seating styled like that of an antique shop, along with the endless supply of fresh food. Owner Aiste has lived in the area for seven years and is originally from Lithuania. She has always, she says, wanted to own a shop on Manor Street.
A haven for foodies, the store boasts a beautiful supply of bread, cold meats and a mountain of different cheeses. As a resident and shop owner, Aiste feels Stoneybatter has never been a better place to hang out. “You’ve great new shops and restaurants opening all the time,” she enthuses. “You won’t find friendlier people in Dublin: there’s a real community spirit.”
Aiste has provided catering in the past for Irish superstars Kodaline and their crew, and for Squeeze pianist and TV presenter Jools Holland. “No one customer is different from any other. So I just did my best. When I brought it to the car I said, ‘Do you mind me asking who it’s for?’. When the person said, ‘Jools Holland’, I was like ‘Are you serious?’ So it was a big thing.”
Looking to the future, Aiste wants to obtain a wine licence and keep her shop open into the later hours. In the meantime, if you stop by, make sure you sample one of the café’s superb homemade pizzas. Just try not to eat the whole thing yourself!
