A star-studded video featuring Steve Coogan, Iggy Pop and Shaun Ryder arrives Monday.
We've been loving it for a long time here at HP Towers and finally the wider world will hear 'St Anthony: An Ode To Anthony H Wilson'.
A stirring tribute to the late, legendary Tony Wilson, the Factory Records boss and broadcaster who was a huge figure on the Manchester music scene for many decades and immortalised by Steve Coogan in 24 Hour Party People, it was penned by Mike Garry and set to music by composer Joe Duddell (New Order, Elbow).
The single arrives on August 14, paired with a nine minute remix by Andrew Weatherall and with artwork from Peter Saville. As Wilson sadly died in 2007 in Manchester’s Christie Cancer Hospital, all profits from the single will go to The Christie Charitable Fund.
Before that, join us at the start of next week for the video.
Talking to Hot Press, renowned poet Mike Garry explained what is to come.
"With people lip-synching my words, the video opens with Steve Coogan, who played the part of Tony in the film. Iggy Pop. Iggy gripped me at the live show I did with him and told me Tony gave me one of his first breaks in British TV... We have a whole host of geniuses."
He's not joking. Here's the full list: Steve Coogan, Iggy Pop, Gillian Gilbert, Mike Garry, John Robb, Joe Duddell, Rowetta, Stephen Morris, Bernard Sumner, Elliot Rashman, Mike Pickering, Christopher Eccleston, Johnny Jay, Leroy Richardson, Terry Christian, Richard Madeley, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Shaun Ryder, Johnny Bramwell, Paul Morley, Mark Radcliffe, Larry Gott, Vini Reilly, Miranda Sawyer, Andrew Weatherall, John Cooper Clarke, Peter Saville & Philip Glass.
Phew!
"The video is incredible," Garry continues. "The video is fucking incredible. It's six minutes of watching, laughing your head off, and at the end you see what is going on. There's a massive, brilliant story behind this."
For more on that story from Garry, and that video, check back in with us next week.
