Yep, rock 'n' roll is returning to Semple Stadium in September, albeit in a posher fashion than before!
The Trip To Tipp is back, but it’s gone all classical!
Yep, a bevy of the Irish acts that rocked Semple Stadium to within an inch of its life during the 1990s are partnering with the Irish Chamber Orchestra for a unique event on September 22.
Curated and hosted by Tom Dunne, the line-up includes Hothouse Flowers, An Emotional Fish, The 4 Of Us, The Frank & Walters who will, of course, be playing Young Offenders fave ‘After All’, and Tom’s mob Something Happens.
Tickets priced €49.50 go on sale on Friday April 27.
“The Feilés and Italia 90 tend to merge in my head: a time of incredible optimism and fun, when it seemed Irish bands – almost all of whom could lay claim to at least one timeless classic - ruled the day,” Dunne reflects. “The Trip to Tipp was the Mecca for Irish bands, a celebration of Irish rock music that had never been seen before. This concert has been in the ether for some time now, and myself and the bands are really excited to be collaborating with the Irish Chamber Orchestra to put together a glorious in your face celebration of a special time in Irish music! Féile was special, it was iconic, it was our Woodstock and Féile Classical will be an even bigger, better, louder explosion of the best of those days and so much more.”
Unlike those rough and ready rock ‘n’ roll days of yore, it’s an all-seated affair with clean toilets, gourmet food tents, gin and prosecco offerings and, lord almighty, pints poured from a keg!
