Hot Press Track of the Day: GTV premiere video for new track 'Mr. Keeper'

Last summer we were gifted ‘The Path’ EP from Dublin foursome GTV. The title track had a beautiful stop motion, clay figure video by Polish artist Martyna Koleniec. Now, showing once again their knack for effective video accompaniments to their melodic, harmony rich folk songs, the lads are back with a nostalgic appendage for latest single ‘Mr. Keeper’.

The song itself is a heartfelt, but upbeat piece written by guitarist and vocalist Richie McGrath. Written for his late father, it catches the beautiful relationship between father and son perfectly, and the video reflects the same.

The video was shot around Dublin and shows a frail man taking time out from his workshop to show his son around Dublin and play ball with him.

These indie folk maestros put a lot of emphasis on euphony and their profound and meaningful lyrics - it's evident that they pour their heart and soul into their compositions.

Talking influences, one would imagine they have an eclectic ear. Think the harmonies of Fleet Foxes mixed with the true Irishness of Damien Dempsey, and on some tracks one might pick up on some Simon and Garfunkel feels. Although not present on this single, they make perfect use of a fiddle on a number of their other tracks, enhancing the sense of their heritage.

Though their recordings are already something special, their live set is something else. You can feel their emotions pouring out from the stage, not least emphasised by powerful, orotund vocals. If you get a chance to catch a show, our advice would be to make it your business to.

The release of this video comes with a request from the band. Near the end of the video we are treated to some dance moves from an impromptu extra. In conversation, he told the guys he was a bar man in Vegas in a past life, and they’d love to find him and show him the fruits of his labour. They think his name is Brendan, so if anyone out there knows him, get in touch with the guys and help them pay their gratitude.
