The presenter blames disagreements with management for his immediate departure.
The shock broadcasting news is that Anton Savage and Today FM have parted ways.
In the statement posted online, Anton thanks his team – “They could not have worked harder or been more creative or dedicated” – but says, “Over the last year it became clear that my objectives for the show and the new management’s objectives for the show diverged greatly. We disagreed on a move to set music quotas, we disagreed on significant changes to the playlist, we disagreed on topics for discussion, on format, on choice of contributors and we disagreed on the choice of certain guests”.
It seems that Savage was unaware that today would be his last show, with him saying in relation to his listeners: "I'd have loved to be allowed to tell them goodbye."
Today FM have issued their own statement saying it "will not be renewing Anton Savage's contract" and promising a new schedule announcement in early 2017.
Among those shocked by the announcement are Can't Cope, Won't Cope writer Stefanie Preissner who messages: "NOOOOOOOOOO NOT ANTON SAVAGE! Where am I meant to get intelligent entertaining radio now! This has RUINED toy show day."
