WATCH: HAVVK share new music video for 'Automatic'
The band's ominous new music video is your worst lockdown fear realised.
The indie three-piece alt-rock band HAVVK have shared the music video for their latest single, 'Automatic'.
The new video, shot by Adam Cleaver and edited by James Byrne, exudes lockdown vibes. Julie Hawk, the band's lead singer, goes about her business in her home: waking up, eating, washing dishes, and sleeping.
However, all is clearly not as it seems. The cameras are voyeuristic and Hawk doesn't seem to realise she's being filmed – cut to a shot of a man wearing headphones looking at five monitors, all filled with images of the rooms in Hawk's house. It's then the viewer may notice that each camera shot is labelled, 'bedroom one', 'bathroom mirror'. Hawk is being watched.
To add to the general sense of foreboding, the images flash between being red hued (literally and figuratively seen through a red prism) and naturally lit. These cuts happen in tandem with the music which moves between soft, acoustic-guitar-driven, melodic verses and hard-core, distortion driven choruses.
Just when you think it can't get much more ominous, the video's ending hits you.
The grunge-fuelled group's sophomore album, Levelling is due for release on Friday 17 September. Fans who are keen to grab the vinyl or digital download on the day of release can pre-order the album now.
